Sometimes inspiration doesn’t come from a breathtaking sunset or a soulful pair of puppy eyes… sometimes it comes from a spider sitting on your wall giving you major main character energy.
That’s how Marvin came to be.
Marvin is a little jumping spider with more personality than most people I know. He’s fuzzy, bright-eyed, and let’s be honest kind of adorable once you get past the eight legs thing. There’s something oddly charming about the way he watches the world like it’s all one big adventure.
When I started painting Marvin, I didn’t expect to love him this much. I thought, “Okay, quick little study piece, maybe creepy-cute at best.” But by the time I finished those glossy black eyes and tiny orange details, I was fully invested. He wasn’t just a spider anymore. he was a little guy with a story.
To me, Marvin represents the magic of seeing beauty in things we normally overlook (or scream at). He’s curious, a little bold, and definitely misunderstood. and maybe that’s why he’s one of my favorite pieces I’ve painted so far.
So here’s to Marvin, the spider that made me stop and say, “Okay fine, maybe you are kind of cute.” 🤎
